USAT Front-end for Mobile Applications

Overview

SIM-based Frontend Menu Interface for SMS Applications. These SIM-based applets can be downloaded onto compatible SIM cards, and present a user-friendly interface to SMS services without requiring users to memorise a list of abstract code words and spacing formats.

The software is based on the widely deployed Wireless Internet Browser ( SmartTrust WIB / SmartàLaCarte ) WML standard, the precursor to the 3G USAT Interpreter. More than 200 million SIM cards are certified and use SmartTrust WIB for mobile commerce & menu driven services.

The open source WML scripts are to be compiled to bytecodes and downloaded via OTA to the SIM cards. The SMS shortcodes and spacing format are encoded in the WML, and input is gathered from the user by way of option lists and series of questions. Once completed, the infomation is formated to the respective structure and send to the SMS center.

To the SMS service/content provider, the received message will appear no different than a SMS message than is manually coded and sent by the user. Hence, no changes is required on the server side.
